The backing
boards, used in conjunction with the stand, replace the removable press
boards and allow the press to be used for cleaning spines and backing and reshaping operations.
The backing board
jaws are beveled in 1/8". Unlike standard backing presses which distribute pressure evenly across the press jaws, the slight bevel concentrates pressure at the books' shoulder joint and ensures a firm grip while also slightly pushing the spine upward.
1/4"
polycarbonate panels line the top surface of the maple jaws protecting
them from damage. Polycarbonate is an extremely tough plastic, frequently used as a replacement for glass and plexiglas where breakage is a concern, Though it will ding if hit hard enough, the damage is aesthetic rather than functional.. |
